The prominent position of the princess in Tintoretto’s St. George and the Dragon drew me to study his painting. In my painting of the princess, I exaggerated her importance even further by cropping out most of St. George, his horse, and the dragon itself. While this painting is more like a master “copy” than other masterwork reinterpretations I have done, I departed from the original in a number of ways. Most significantly, the princess’s face reflects more concern for the danger of her situation.
